
Dr. JULIE DELEEMANS

Biography
Dr. Julie Deleemans holds a PhD in Medical Science from the University of Calgary specializing in psychosocial and integrative oncology. She is also a patient advocate as a 19-year survivor of stage IV laryngeal cancer, diagnosed in 2006 at age 18, and former caregiver to her late sister who died from cancer. Presently she is a Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) funded Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Calgary in the Department of Oncology and serves as a patient advocate on various boards and committees. Dr. Deleemans’ research interests include the impacts of cancer treatments on the gut microbiota, gastrointestinal and psychosocial symptoms, probiotics, biofield therapy, and end of life supportive care for people with cancer. Through her research and advocacy work, she is passionate about helping others affected by cancer. As part of the CAN-PACT team, she is committed to ensuring the patient voice is integrated through all aspects of this innovative work, and excited to be a part of meaningful change helping to reduce patients’ suffering and create opportunities for connection and meaning among those facing cancer.
